This document gives instructions for placing your solargraph camera, retrieving it and creating images from it using your phone camera and scanning apps. You will need a very dimly lit space (red light is best) and access to a scanner or phone.

Big Skies Full of Stars
August is the month for meteor spotting as the amazing Perseid Meteor Shower occurs. Please join Dark Skies Gigha for one of our watch parties, where we will take some time to lie under the stars and watch these spectacular bright fast meteors.
Meet at the information hut by the Gigha ferry slip. We will walk up to the golf course via the Achavinish pathway. It could be muddy underfoot so please have suitable footwear. Wear warm and waterproof clothing because we will be lying on mats on the ground. Bring a red light torch if you have one. All ages welcome!

Solar Eclipse 12th August 2026 〰️
We are so excited that we are in a part of the world that will witness a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday August 12th 2026. You won’t want to miss this rare event, so we hope you will join us for a very special viewing party.
For Scotland, the eclipse will happen when the sun is beginning to set so it will be low in the western sky. We will be in the grassy outdoors, so please bring something to sit on and be dressed for the weather conditions. We have solar glasses for everyone to be able to watch safely. If you are bringing a camera or any other types of viewing equipment, please ensure that they have a high quality solar filter for safe photography. If the sky is too cloudy to see the eclipse, we will stay in the village hall and watch the Royal Observatory Greenwich livestream of the event.
