Autumn 2026
Gigha’s dark skies are particularly special in the early autumn. On a cooler, clear night, we can catch some of the best views of the Milky Way before it dips and disappears below the horizon for the winter.
As late autumn arrives, the nights become longer and maximum darkness also returns. The dates around each New Moon are best for stargazing as moonlight will not wash out faint stars and deep sky objects. If you can catch a cloud-free night, the constellations of our northern skies are an autumn wonder to behold.
DARK SKIES THEATRE
With the support of our community, Dark Skies Gigha’s Dark Sky Theatre was established in 2022.
The Theatre is located at the Dark Sky Discovery Site at the north of the island. At the site you will find a night sky interpretation board, benches and stargazing pamphlets for islanders and visitors.
